A Philosophy of Education:
Welcome to the exciting world of homeschooling! If you are brand new on this journey, it’s likely that you will have plenty of questions and are probably wondering what do to next.
We believe one of the most important first steps is to develop a philosophy of education. This is essential in helping you develop why you are homeschooling, what education is to you, and then how to best pursue it for your personal homeschool. Your philosophy of education will act as a compass that will guide you and help you to stay on your course.
There are three ways to approach this:
1) Attend an interactive group that we host. Not only will this help you be accountable to follow through, it’ll give you an opportunity to meet others that are just starting out and possibly find someone to be an accountability partner with. Please contact us if you are interested in participating.
2) Purchase a self-directed study through us to use at your own pace.
3) The Foundation for American Christian Education (FACE) has a Commonwealth program to help you develop a philosophy of education. Their free Getting Aquainted level is the first of three levels.
If you find that you would like to begin with the Commonwealth Getting Aquainted level and are unable to afford the next two levels, please contact us to see when we will be offering an interactive group for furthering your study.
Please note that while we use the Noah Plan Principle Approach Self-Study guide, you may find that teaching using this method may not necessarily be for you. That is something you will discover as you develop your philosophy of education using this guide.
Bible Study
As an encouragement to you, we’d like to bless you with a copy of Homeschooling With a Meek and Quiet Spirit Bible study by Teri Maxwell. Supplies are limited- we have enough for the first 10 new homeschooling families this coming school year who contact us as early as August 2010.
You are welcome to go through this Bible study on your own but we invite and would like to encourage you to join a Bible study group that we host. *The date and time for this Bible study is to be announced.
*This Bible study is for new and veteran homeschoolers. You can purchase the Bible Study at http://www.titus2.com/ . For those who would like to borrow the materials for the course of the Bible Study, please contact us.
Scheduling and other Helps
There is so much to discover in our walk as homeschooling parents. How do we schedule this into our lives? How do we learn to adapt to scheduling changes with a growing family and “life in general” taking place? What do we do when that precious wee baby needs a feeding or there is a phone call that must be taken? While Managers of Their Homes by Terri Maxwell is a springboard for organizing, we invite you to explore ideas from many resources and personal experiences to help you stay on task and hopefully help your schooling days flow well.
*Purchasing Managers of Their Homes is not necessary for this workshop, but you are welcome to purchase one at http://www.titus2.com/ .
